Hey, let's start giving a shit..
Current mood: annoyed
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes
We've got a problem.
The Downstairs is close to shutting it's doors forever. This will be the 3rd venue to close, leaving us with nothing but house shows (which rule, but no one can ever throw them) and paying for shows (like what Dave is doing on Halloween, thanks bud).
Why is it closing? Oh yeah, probably because no one cares. Bands want to be assholes to people who are trying to help (ie: Hellen Fleming/Josh Fryfogel/..Robinson Garcia/Al from Bitoz), or because it's the same four bands that play every show.
How about instead of boycotting or not showing up to certain shows because of drama, or because your friends aren't going, you just go. I mean, yeah, our economy sucks right now, but $8 once a week for a local show to happen isn't a huge cash suck.
Think about this: if there is no steady venue, where will bands be able to come up? Where will your friends band, or your band, be able to play for everyone? Why will your little brother or sister even want to listen to music, or play it if there isn't a place to introduce and debut new things to the youth? Alaska is a pretty musical place, and I remember seeing 200 kids showing up every Friday for local shows and actually LISTENING to the bands, not standing outside having a cigarette or sitting on the couch. Let's change this.
Go to every show you can, appreciate the people who put it on, thank the person who set up the show (it's a lot more work than you'd think, there's a lot of time and stress that goes into it), and promote shows that your friends are going to or playing, or any show for that matter just to make sure kids show up and have a good time. If we want to be heard and hear new music, we need to keep at least one venue open.
Main point: Show up to shows, appreciate them, get into the music, appreciate the bands and people that make shows happen, buy CDs, but t-shirts, buy stickers, sing a long, give a shit about something that means a lot.
Alaska is really boring, and you all know this, so why let the one fun thing we have left to do go to waste? Every Friday, you can look forward to being with friends and seeing your favorite locals (and sometimes out of state bands like Trash Talk, Ceremony, Unrestrained, Norma Jean, ETID, Hatebreed, etc) play music and enjoy yourself.
I hope at least some of you give a shit, because I know we do. Repost this if you feel the same. Even if you don't go to show, encourage your friends to, or go with your friends for the experience. The more people, the more fun, the more bands we can get up here, the better things we can accomplish.
My rant is done, love and respect.

Life, A "Grim Life" at that. They are like an Alka Seltzer to the rescue. AHh...
Vocals: Chris Guitar: Ian
Drums: Brad Bass: Ben
So I heard about this band from one the Anchorage kids. He stated they are "fun", he also stated "I think they broke up". Well I hope not because these kids are one of the first New Hardcore bands I have heard in Alaska that I am really into, the recordings they had on their site reminded me a bit of like a live show sound, I do believe H.R. of Bad Brains stated that recording the live sound is better, and if H.R. says so... These kids are kickn and I hope they continue to do so and hopefully get some more collaboration in Alaska HC scene efforts. I am going to post what one the Grim's posted in a blog on their band site within myspace in the next AKHC blog. I think if we want a scene here in Alaska we better take damn care of it is right!
This is their Myspace Page a few tracks are posted. Cross your fingers these guys didn't call it quits folks.
Clyng-Onz! Star Trek not so much, Alaskan Hardcore/Punk, Damn Skippy!
Clyng-Onz / Psychedelic Skeletons - Split
Label:Bullhead Records
Format:Vinyl, LP
Released:1985
So this is the Split album with the Psychedelic Skeletons I posted earlier, This band is a blast and always a good listening. Fast Hawaii is an amusing track about going to Hawaii and Dan-O booking him and taking him away to the islands and getting stoned with Magnum, lol, I think this is one the most mentaly liberating tracks I have heard in a while for many factors in play here in Alaska. This band definetly had a message such tracks as Nuclear Bomb, Reading Time and Let's Get Juvenile which is dead on a part of the problem in refrence to my last post about keeping your scene alive. They know how to "Lighten Up"!
So this was also labeled on Discogs as psychedelic rock/punk, though the singer of this band is the producer to Skate Death and Psychedelic Skeletons, I think this is an excellent band which I will state again I would not like to see this album disapear in this abyss of the 80s so which brings us to the singer once again Frank Harlan, he is also known as Bill Bored, He actually has a website going that has some of the 80s Alaskan Scene documented through the zine "Warning" he put together in Anchorage back in the day and his show "Bomb Shelter". I will get into more of this in a future post.
In Closing nothing more complete than two blogs in a row with Clyng-Onz video's and what better than in a Blog about the Clyng-Onz, I live in the South East of Alaska though I have a part of the Alaskan Highway going passed my hood, Drive to town in spring and summer you get a shit load of slow winnebago's so here it is...

Psychedelic Skeletons, I LOVE ALASKA!
Psychedelic Skeletons - Split
Label:Bullhead Records
Released:1985

Now this is something with the word "Psychedelic" I can be in the mood for, In fact not only can I be in the mood for this I would listen to this often. Now this one is hilarious and they have a good sound, I thought it was interesting that Discogs labeled them as Psychedelic Rock/Punk. haha! Yeah Kinda, I think this is some good hardcore for sure, If you were to say TSOL or Flipper were not Hardcore because they didnt sound like Ian Mackaye in Minor Threat. Then you will probably disagree with me here. My Favorite tracks in this album is "I love Alaska" Oh man I wish I had this track available as this blog main track. We will find a way to put some of these tracks up. I will contact Frank Harlan and see what we can do here. Whom was a producer on this album as well as Skate Death, He was the singer of Clyng-Onz who had the split in this Psychedelic Skeletons Album, More Info on that soon.

Skate Death, now this is one kick'n album. From "Food is Good" and "Skate Death" I was jammn out all the way through at no point did i feel like i was listening to reruns of the last track. I will not compare them to anyone I am not a big fan of comparison's. If I find a way to post up some streaming audio of this we will revist this album, Hopefully the Band does not get upset with posting up a track of this Kick Ass album. This is an album that definetly can not be left behind in the 80's. Interesting note on this as i was searching through albums on discogs I notice that it look liked someone did a cover of the song Gargoyles, the track doesnt show up as that title on the album but "thrap" is the one they must be talking about bieng the mention of gargoyle's in this track. The name of that band who covered this track was plainfield, they were originaly from Michigan but moved to California -"Smelly Mustafa". This was on a split album with another band called Melt Banana, I couldnt tell you if it really is the same track because well, it would cost me $200.00 so far to buy this album on discogs. Maybe someone has some info on this album. Old punk is pretty damn expensive sometimes wouldnt you say? Punk Rock!..

The Good The Bad and The Frustrated....
Hardcore/Screamo or Hardcore/Thrash perhaps Hardcore/Metal. yup. Though there is many variations of hardcore it seems these days I crave its begining sound more so. 80s Hardcore was amasing in Alaska as from some of the stuff I have heard recently. I will post up some blogs of some kick'n Alaskan Hardcore soon. What a good scene Alaska had back in the 80's. Forums I have read around the net included some of these people apart of this scene commenting on a article of the Anchorage Underground. I noticed that one individual made the comment that Alaskan Hardcore didnt die its just people burned out and it is still going strong in Anchorage, Hardcore/Punk is going strong I just wish I knew where these bands are playing? I have heard some more recent bands though perhaps more / / /hardcore. The root of the blooming flower is what I am most interested in. Its like an old friend that you never lose touch with in this case regardless if you never met. Well mostly anyways. If anyone in the Anchorage or Juneau Underground Scene happens to Catch this Blog which I hope please comment if you know any shows dates coming up so I can post on the Blog, thanks.

I really wasn't sure I wanted to put this blog up for the public it is mostly going note's I am taking. I am really tired of not knowing whats going on with the hardcore/punk scene in Alaska these days, I dont live in the city, Though I just moved back from San Fransisco Bay Area which HC Punk is pretty bad ass still. So anyone have any input on Alaska Hardcore scene, please feel free to post up here.
